We’re coming upon that time of year when flooding occurs as the snow melts or we experience heavy rains. Though we all hope it never happens, it’s a good idea to be informed just in case water damage happens to you.
First, something you should do now to be prepared. Contact your homeowners insurance agent to find out if you are able to get sump pump failure coverage. Even if you are not able to purchase flood insurance, you may still be able to get this type of coverage.
Then, be aware when flooding occurs, fast action on your part is key! Standing water needs to be removed immediately. Mold will start to grow on a damp surface within 24-48 hours. We can do water removal and clean up quickly and the cost associated with it is relatively low as compared to the cost of mold remediation if it is not taken care of properly. Here’s some things to do if you do experience flooding:
- Contact your insurance company to determine if the damage is covered and take picture of the water damage.
- Move all photos, paintings, and art objects to a safe, dry location.
- Remove and prop up wet upholstery and cushions
- Remove rugs from wet floors and pick up loose items from the floor
And never enter an area with standing water or turn on light fixtures if the ceiling is wet.
Then call me, Joe Greiner, Greiner Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning. I’ll give you a fair, honest assessment and solution.
