Our Story
In 2017, after 20 years of working at a dead-end job, I had decided it was time for a change. I felt that my capabilities were so much more, but the question was, at what?
I started the job hunt, applied at several places of employment, and had several offers, but I was not finding anything that was really making me feel that this is the career for me.
One day, Lisa had scheduled us to have our carpets and furniture cleaned on a Friday by Greiner Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning. The owner, Joe, came that morning, and he and I had a very unexpected conversation about him wanting to retire and sell his business.
Let me tell you, that conversation stuck with me for weeks.
After about a month, we had decided to sit down with Joe and his wife, Mary, and learn more about their business. After working with Joe when I could and having several conversations with Lisa, on March 2, 2018, I left my 20-year career.
Lisa and I became the new owners of Greiner’s, and then a year later we renamed the business to Brownies Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning and Water Restoration.
It was one of the best decisions we ever made, other than marrying one another.
For the first five years, Lisa and I worked together at operating the business. Lisa would help manage the bookkeeping and keep the schedule in line, while I was going out and doing the jobs and handling any maintenance and repairs that needed to be done to keep the truck operating properly.
At that time, Lisa and I were talking about hiring a helper to go with me because our daily schedule was getting very full and we were starting to really get backed up.
In May of 2022, Lisa received a very unexpected phone call stating that her job, along with several other employees’ jobs, was being eliminated and that at the end of the phone call, they would no longer be employed.
Lisa and I were both very shook up, and we were wondering how we were going to make it. Well, we sat down and talked about it that evening and decided to put our marriage to the ultimate test.
Instead of hiring a helper, we decided to work, live, and sleep by each other’s sides 24/7.
Truthfully, it was one of the best personal and business decisions we ever made.
There are still a lot of things we each take care of in the business, but working side by side in the field, we have become super-efficient and feel we deliver a very high-quality cleaning service.
We are very blessed to have this special relationship. We feel most days are good, but after some trying ones, we can both say that we still love each other.
